Spolu - shared expenses for whole families
If you’ve ever gone on a trip with a few other families, you know the last evening. A pile of receipts, a calculator, and the eternal question: does a five-year-old count as a whole person when we split the groceries?
Apps like Splitwise split money between people. But on a family trip it isn’t people who settle up, it’s families. And families aren’t the same size. So I built Spolu (Slovak for together).
What it does
- Splits between families, not people. Each family enters its adults and kids. Food is split with kids at half by default, accommodation per head, ski school only for the kids, wine only for the adults - or any ratio you agree on.
- Everyone writes their own receipts. You invite the other families with a link and each of them logs what they paid. Everybody sees the balance live.
- One link at the end. Spolu works out the smallest number of transfers and gives you a payment QR code for your banking app (or a PayMe link). The settlement opens without an account, so grandma can see it too.
- Not just money. Each event also has a shared plan - deposits with reminders, who brings the grill - and a chat for all the families.
- Works without signal. It’s a web app you add to your home screen. At a cottage with no Wi-Fi you keep writing and it syncs once you’re back online.
It speaks Slovak, Czech, Polish and English and works with euros, korunas, złoty or any other currency. It’s free.
Try it
If you’re planning a ski week, a summer cottage or just a long weekend with friends’ families, give it a go at spolu.top. And if something annoys you or is missing, let me know - I’d love the feedback.
